Yes your iguana was trying to cool off some. If your iguana has darker colors, 85 degrees will feel more like 110 degrees to them. Allow plenty of shaded area for your iguana to retreat to. A suggestion would be to find something to cover the cage with that does the same thing as a trees leaves, spotted sunlight coming through. That way your iguana is still getting hit with sunshine but doesn't get the full blast of it. I had my 2 iguana's out today and the temperature on the gauge read 110 degrees ( direct sunlight ) That's just too hot for a iguana so after about 45 minutes we brought both of them inside again. Ours don't seem to know when to move into the shade we have for them....so we have to watch them closely.
