We were at PetSmart today, picking up some Dog food, and Juby wanted to get a peek at the bearded dragon baby that they had which I had seen last week. We arrived, and immediately trolled over to the little reptile section, and were disappointed to see that the BD was gone. Somebody had probably fallen in love with him, and off he went. I was however, even more disappointed when I saw a panther chameleon (beautiful, beautiful, cham)that was in an enclosure that was not properly humidified. The cham had some feces stuck half in it's vent, which I believe was due to the dry tank air. Next, I saw this scrawny tiny little green basilisk, with huge lines on it's sides, from dehydration, it was having a very bad shed, there was absolutely NO water in the enclosure, and the humidity was at 0%.As I'm sure you guys know, Basilisk's need a high humidity level. I was very distraught, of course, and I promptly went to find someone to share my concerns. I found one person, who sent me to another person, who told me she'd take care of it. Well she just stood therre, and didn't even go over there to check it out. So I finally found the manager, and he said that I was right, and that it was difficult for him, because he didn't make his way over to that part of the store very often. I told him that that was kinda dumb! I am going back to the store tomorrow, and I'm going to ask him if I can possibly come in for a few hours a week, to donate some time to keep the reptiles in the store in proper surroundings. I doubt that they will let me, but I am going to get all over that store if something doesn't change. I feel that all my rambling, and bi***ing probably won't do any good anyways, but I can't just sit back and watch that poor basilisk die.
