Got a couple hours sleep. Sorry I wasn't more specific about some things.
Soaking your igs in water/betadine does NOT get rid of mites .At the Boa Forum people have tried it on their snakes and they claim it doesn't work so I'd go along with them on this.Maybe its different for igs tho? don't know.
Oil(vegetable, olive) & suffocating the mites has been used and supposedly effective (I still would use the mineral oil around the eyes I know that to be safe for eyes).
when you bake your basking branches ...they need to be in the oven about 3 hours at 200 degrees
if you use Provent-a-mite NOW is the time to order it because by mid-month they are sold out!. It costs about $15.00 you cannot buy it from a store. I believe you can spray this stuff directly on their face as well not sure.I'd order it just to have on hand for future infestations.
when using Nix.Spray it liberally on your ig.You can also use the same solution to spray down your cage.Let it air dry then rinse/wipe off with water or vinegar and hydrogen peroxide mix.
Ivermectin spray *is* very effective....but I believe you MUST get it from a vet.
A product called Durkyl (sp?) for bird mites has also been mentioned by herpers as being effective for reptile mites.
Some herpers use Nolvasan get it cheap by the gallon ($16.oo) at phone number: 1800 JEFFERS
to disinfect their cages
others swear by Sevin Dust 5% a product by Orco to disinfect cages. Its a powder sold at garden-type supply stores & I think some pet stores follow directions on package.Call around and see if its carried by the stores local to you.Its best used for the bottom of cages (crevices) and basking branches (cover in large plastic bag like a trash bag) and let sit out in sun for a few hours then rinse & let branches sun bake dry
Bleach & water....let it air dry then rinse/wipe off with water safe with wood. Need to remove all food dishes and clean with bleach and water too.You can put ig back in as soon as its disinfected & dry. Basking branches (lots of hiding spots for mites)can be re-introduced as soon as they are disinfected & dry
Getting rid of mites is a pain in the butt! These are just a few ideas . Its just whatever works for you or pertains to your situation. Good luck guys I hope this clarifies a few things I posted.
