Trust me when I say that you care more & would make a better iguana owner than half the people I've met that had or have reptiles. There are so many out there that have them as a gimmick show off pet to impress their friends. I know of some horrid conditions/ almost torture of a poor chameleon who is only fed a couple times a week & teased/tormented by people much too immature to care for such an animal (but mostly they just don't really care). I myself learned from my last iguana that I need to take in fecal samples more regularly even if he isn't acting sickly. If I had done this, perhaps they would have realized something was not right. As long as you learn from your mistakes, not all is lost. No one here knew everything when they got there first iguana because there is always more to learn!
