Ya know Michael...I never thought to ask about..neutering Feo and any adversity regarding decreased life span. Right now Im not on speaking terms with the surgeon and his office(they injured Feo's tail)...so I'll have to check with my rep. vet who will remove his sutures in a few more weeks, somehow I doubt if it shortens their life I don't think spaying a female ig shortens their life either, in fact prolly quite the contrary ;o) One thing the surgeon said...is that it is ALOT more effective prior to a male ig reaching sexual maturity...just like in dogs or cats...to decrease breeding season aggression, altering temperament....but my male is goin on 6 yrs/old. There is a possibility he'll need progesterone shots for a while...there is still enough testosterone in Feo's body to last him way past next years breeding season.Yeah it is an expensive operation...not to mention if he needs progesterone shots...but well worth it to me.
