Hi.
I agree with what Mr.D said. I would probably use PVC tubing and long bolts with wing nuts for the main connections and strap everything else together with black cable ties (white is not ozone safe and will crack and break). This way you can make the cage collapsable as well.
But your ideas sound great. The size is really good. What a lucky 'semi-permanent' iguana Iggy is!LOL

: Hi guys,
: I am actually a iguana-aunt, not an iggymom. I have been housing my brother's igs for several months now, as he had to move and couldn't take them. Since 'temporary' seems to turned into 'semi-permanent', I want to build an outdoor enclosure for the largest ig, Iggy.
: I've done a lot of research online about cages, and made some tenative plans. Iggy is 48 inches snout to tail. So I have drawn up plans for an enclosure that would be 8 ft tall, 4 ft wide and 12 ft long.
: I am planning to construct the frame from pressure treated, Water Sealed(TM) 2x4s and covering that with 14 gauge welded wire(preferrably vinyl coated if I can find it).
: I would then like to build catwalks and perches from wood frames covered with wire. If anyone has a suggestion for an alternative to wire on these, I'd appreciate hearing it.
: I also plan to build a mostly protected 'house' perch that will be covered in the rippled plastic roof material that I don't know the name of :-). So they can get out of the rain If needed.
: I was thinking of leaving the bottom open to allow a small pond to be installed. Do any of you think that perhaps I should dig the ground out and line it somehow before putting the enclosure on top? Would my ig dig her way OUT?
: We live in Texas south of Houston, and right now on my front porch the humidity level reads 83%. Its usually much higher. I
: think this will be sufficient. I plan to place the cage near a fig tree which will provide shade in different places throughout the day. I am also considering letting a climbing vine of some ig-safe sort cover part of the cage for extra shade.
: Ok, now please let me know where I've made glaring mistakes. All suggestions on possible changes/improvements will be appreciated. I just want to give Iggy the best life I can.
