"From what I have seen" Darker colors has always been a warning sign something is going on, the least to worry about would be, your iguana turning dark to catch more light, and worst case that I know of, would be a illness internally making him stress out (rare) Harry (my ig) when I first got him was really dark brown but now he's lighten up alot...but he'll always be a light brown.( because of the TYPE of iguana he is)
Some questions: have you moved anything around in the tank? What types of food are you giving him? And when you picked him up from his hiding spot, did he feel warm or cool?
