I think I figured out a few things:

1) I suspect the bright end of his cage was too hot when the lights were on. I have one end with an incandescent, which was pretty hot (judging from when I stick my hand under it), plus a UVB. The other end has a red infrared (not as hot) that stays on 24 hours. During the day he always stayed at the dark end, i figure because it was too hot. Him always being at the dark end might screw him up. Last night, I put in a less powerful incandescent. We'll see what happens.

2) Regarding the leafies, I tried putting a piece of kale up in a crack on his basking branch. he went right for it! Used to be I put them on the floor or on a clip mounted in the lower part of the cage. So, I changed the clip so now it dangles from a string to right at the top of his branch.

And, no, I will not be getting up at 3AM to feed him. I put food in before I leave for work or maybe early evening. If he wants to let it sit there until the middle of the night, that's up to him.

Thanks for your all's input.
