YES! To your question about adopting. Lola was adopted at 5 years of age. The sweetest thing you'll ever meet. She came to us with no health problems. Yes we were lucky. Harry, not so. Not all igs up for adoption are unhealthy. Personally, ALL of my pets (dogs, cats, igs) came to us as either semi-adults (Harry being 1 1/2 yrs or adults). Sometimes adult animals are better, because you know what their personality are. You know, you can be choosy at what you adopt (i.e. you aren't forced to take the ig that is currently available). Call a local rescue group and let them know what you are looking for (i.e. male/female, young/older, easy to handle, etc.) Trust me, you might be pleasantly surprised and you KNOW you are saving one more ig from either a miserable life or even death. We were. Good luck.
