Wendy.....there are such things..I think my male is one such thing! He recently has been neutered anything to get control of his "raging hormones" come breeding season. I do not believe in the two popular beliefs of ig aggression. The ALPHA-Dominance theory that Melissa Kaplan mentions or the Aggression-Human-Socialization type theorys that Henry Lizardlover touts. I think there are a few "bad" iguanas out there that cannot be socialized. Ive used...been exposed to both theories and neither applies in my case. When most male iguanas reach sexual maturity...3-5 y/o ..this breeding aggression is most notable, but a bite, a tail whip can come anytime. My igs are cranky during sheds, sometimes if they want out, or have been outside and are being brought in, they can get mean...You just haven't read enough of the stories here. Do an archive search on "aggression" or breeding season aggression, or bites or fights, or attacks...you'll find a whole bunch of entries of people & iguana conflicts. Its the bitter with the sweet. I wonder where Iguanas fit in the Animal Attacks against Humans.....no where near cats and dogs...but look at how many people own cats & dogs compared to Ig owners! I bet they're up there on the list. Maybe if more research would be done on iguanas & aggression then we'd have something to go by, until then...just be careful. they are fast they lunge, will charge, and can leap, jump quite a distance to get at ya...so many people take them for granted, trusting them, giving them their human notions. Don't you be one of em Wendy! They are wild animals...and they tolerate us much like a caged bird tolerates us. They are not domesticated nor domesticatible, no matter what our human notions would have us believe. They still are interesting pets but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
Gina
