: I had this huge argument with a couple of non-Iguana people last night about the size of a Iguana.
: They were saying that a Ig will only grow as big as there cage.
: I of course disputed that statement.
: Could you all put a end to this argument,so that I can print it out and show them?!

i was just pondering this question myself. this last week i did a presentation for 2nd graders at a local school. one of the students had their iguana visiting the classroom for a few days. he was about 18 inches long and looked pretty nice, altho he was rather thin and quite jumpy, not terribly fond of being held. then i looked in his food dish and saw nothing but romaine and green grapes! he was being kept in a 20 gal. long tank. i was hoping this was a temporary thing because it was a visit to school. well, i stayed til the end of the day to talk to the mother of this child. she told me that this poor little fellow was almost 3 years old! and the 20 gal tank was his permanent residence! needless to say, we had a pretty one sided but chat before she left. i was lucky to have a NIAD care sheet in the van and hopefully she will do some more research. i showed her a rescue iguana that i had with me, a 16 month old surviver of mbd that is over 2 feet long. she was a bit shocked at her size for the age. so, was it a combination of tank size and diet that stunted the growth of this iguana?
sorry for the longwindedness. jif
