It is difficult to determine the sex of an iguana until they start to mature. One thing to look for to determine if it is a male is what is known as "femoral pores". These are located on the underside of the back legs and are VERY noticeable as large pores in a male. They will be small and sometimes hard to see in a female. The "jowls" of a male enlarge as it matures. They get "puffy" whereas in a female there is very little puffiness to them. A male's spikes are taller.
I'm leaving you a link that you might want to take a look at since it explains some things in great detail. There are also pictures of iguanas...but a word of warning: They are graphic in nature.
I believe that there is another site run by the Iguana Den that did have pictures of those pores. I don't have that URL but plugging in Iguana Den should find it for you.
