The tropical hibiscus that Circisue has planted and talks about will not withstand northern winters. However, there is a hardy hibiscus plant that you can plant out and it will winter over, at least in PA. Personally, I don't think the flowers are as attractive--they are huge--the size of dinner plates. Harry's dad just planted one in VA and is going to be our test on whether the flowers can be fed to iguanas! I have a tropical one that I keep inside my house but it only blooms once every 3 years--not enough sun. Call a good nursery and ask them about the hardy hibiscus. Unfortunately, I haven't found any source that definately says the hardy flowers can be fed to iguanas so I'm waiting on Harry's Dad to fill us in.
