Basically I follow MK and Jen Swaffords recommendations. I like the MK diet. I do have one problem when using it. Mel doesn't like that much alfalfa in her food. If I follow the receipe exactly she won't touch it with a ten foot pole. The first time I made up a batch (keeping in mind I alway make enough food at once to last a couple of weeks) she didn't do more than pick it for a week. I was starting to get really concerned. I knew there was something in it she didn't like and figured it might be the alfalfa. So I sat there one night picking softened, crumbling alfalfa pellets out of her food for over an hour. That was it, she cleared her plate the next day. I had to start rinsing the alfalfa out of it. Thankfully I had used pellets and by placing the salad in collendar (sp?) they would dissolve in the water enough to fit through the holes while the rest of the diet, although finally chopped, usually stayed in. I am a little concerned about her protein intake, but since she is 5.5 years and full grown I try not to let it get to me.
I don't stick solely to the salad though. Since VARIETY, VARIETY, VARIETY is important. Daily, I look for different things to add to it. Maybe a little carrots, some snow peas, or even some radish (with tops incl).
Also I don't mix the fruit in when I make it. I add something different daily.
I supplement with a multi vitamin and calcium three times a week.
I put the salad in her enclosure in the morning when I leave for work. Then when I get home in the afternoon I hand feed her greens such as collard or mustard (lately both).
I know this has been lengthy. But you asked. Hope this helps.
