In Reply to: How am I doing with my spinytail? posted by Bluereed on April 16, 1999 at 00:37:22:
: Recently a friend gave me his spiny tailed Iguana. His name is Gideon, He's about 5-6 years old and 19" long. I'm not sure what type of spinytail. I give him 12 hrs of a white heat lamp and a UVB lamp and 12 hrs of just a dark blue heat lamp. Its 70 to 80 degrees at night and 75 to 95 during the day. I keep him in a 20 gallon(soon to be 30) I feed him shredded green beans, parsnips, carrots and grapes with a calcium/vitamin supplement, alfalfa pellets, escarole and mustard greens. I've read alot about Green IGS but can't find much about spinytail. He eats well and seems to be gaining a little weight. My friends fed him grapes and mixed greens only with 24 hours of white light(no UVB). I handle every couple of days. He doesn't bite but he does fight like crazy till I put him on his back and rub his belly. Does anyone have any pointers for me?
Whoa, MAN!
That iguana is way to small. A spiny tail should be 3 feet a age 6. They are mainly omnivours, so the reason he/she hasn't been growing is because you haven't given it crickets.
