Mr.D (and anyone else)
I have 2 Chinese Water Dragons and I would be very interested in knowing your opinion(s) of my using a 100-watt flood active uvheat bulb in my set-up (size and set-up of my enclosure: 5 ½ feet long x 2 ¾ feet deep x 7 ½ feet tall … a very large enclosure with many branches and plants to "hide"/shade themselves in -)? The closest spot directly under the light is 23 inches. I originally got this bulb to use in their room when they free-roam (about 4-5 hours a day - more on the weekends). Since April 23 I have had it in their enclosure on a timer for 14 hours a day (I am now wondering if this is too much and I should go back to the 2, 48-inch reptisun 5.0 in the enclosure and the active uvheat bulb in the room).
They have always looked very healthy and have not had any health problems, colors being nice and bright. However, lately their colors have been more "intense" deeper blues, brighter greens. Their behavior & appetite has seemed to be the same (Sparx does seem to be a little more "frisky" lately - but he's a male so that is to be expected - yes?)
I am posting a pic of my set-up so you can see the environment..
Yes, you read correctly, they have their own room - the whole room is very tropical! I go in there and I still can't believe it's a room in my house! The whole room looks like a rainforest! My husband installed a 65 gallon water garden (pond) in there with large braided vines and plants! We painted the walls to look like there are leaves all over it, and there is wall to wall emerald green indoor/outdoor carpeting. When you sit in there in the evening, you feel like you truly are in the tropics! It stays around 75+ degrees and around 60-70% humidity, and when the crickets get chirping…. I almost feel like I'm back in my home state of Florida! Since I don't know how to post more than one pic at a time, if you are interested in seeing pics of their room, you can visit my photo album at the link listed below…
Thankyou in advance for any comments/recommendations…
Michelle,
Spyro&Sparx (waiting to see what hUmommy is going to do with our lighting next)
ps - my husband just finished building them a "screenhouse" (only when we're outside too) for outdoor exposure to natural sunlight...
