thanx for your response. i was just guessing on the breakdown of nutrients part, and you are probably right that as long as it is sealed it is fine. the reason i asked this question is because i read in numerous sites as well as mk`s (if memory serves me well) that baby foods are good in a situation like when he won`t eat his regular foods or is sick. but she said that they should not be a regualr part of the diet and i was just wondering about the reasons that are behind that. that was where my question was coming from i wanted to know the reason why.

: I don't see any problem whatsoever with using baby food IF it is the kind that doesn't have added sugars, etc. This would include the organic ones and the "First Foods" types. You just have to be a label-reader...and I have a feeling you are! LOL
: I'm truly guessing here, but I don't think there is a break down in nutrients when it comes to food sealed in jars vs frozen. As long as they are used before the due date, they should be fully potent. AND they don't keep once they are opened for more than a day or two. I know if you are feeding them to a human you can't save it at all if you have used the spoon to dip, feed, dip because the human's saliva breaks down the food.

: Baby food is also recommended for use with geckos that like fruit/nectar such as day geckos (apricot for example). As I understand it, in the wild fruit falls off & starts to rot and get "mooshy"...that is when the reptiles are able to break it open (if not already popped open) and eat the fruit/meat. So...in captivity we use the baby foods because they are already "mooshy." And I'm sure baby food is much healthier, cleanliness-wise, than fruit laying rotting on the forest floor!
: Personally, I think baby food comes in very handy in lots of situations. But most importantly when you are dealing with a reptile that is in a recovery-state or needs to be "forced" into eating his veggies. For example, our bearded dragon became constipated because he REFUSED to eat his veggies. Got him turned around and back to normal by dipping his crickets one at a time into green peas baby food before letting him eat them. It was messy but it worked! Now he eats his veggies. As you probably have found out, once a reptile gets a bad habit it is hard to break. Baby food rescued me.
: I know I have rambled here but I've tried to explain my position on the subject thoroughly as you asked. Does this fall under the old saying of "be careful what you ask for"? *grin* Hope it helped you in your own decision!
