A friend of my gave me three ig books one of which is "Iguana, Iguana - Guide for Successful Captive Care" by Fredric L. Frye. Boy, that is a great book. Another was "Iguanas - A Complete Pet Owner's Manual" by Barlett & Barlett. I think this is the one that Harry's Dad mention. It's pretty good for a little $7.00 book, except it does mention using animal protein. It also has a good pic of using that garbage can on it side for a nesting chamber, like Dino talked about. If anyone here needs to see a pic of it, just let me know. The last one is a informational piece of bullpucky, but has great pics. My friend had 3 igs, one of which got MBD. It was his first and the pet store had told him to feed spinach, so thats what he mainly fed him. When at first his ig started looking funny he just thought that his ig was developing wrong. By the time he thought that something was wrong and took him to the vet it had a serious case and a deformed back. Even though later he got 2 more igs and the "Iguana, Iguana" book he said that his first ig always got the special attention because he felt so bad that he had done that to him. Don't know why I'm rambling about this, guess it kind of reminded me of Merlin and how sometimes your first pet suffers due to igornance.
Ok back to happy thoughts. We went into a pet store yesterday, the one that buys back their animals, and they had a beautiful adult female ig, about 2 yrs old. She must have been 12-15" SVL. I wanted her so bad. She was in a huge aquarium and when I went to look at her she came up to the glass and put her hand up on the glass. I think that was when she told me that she wanted to go home with us. No, I didn't get her. Hubby reminded me that we don't have an inch of space left to build a cage in. I got to pet her, what a sweetheart. I think that is when I was debating about putting one of my children up for adoption and giving this ig their room. I decided that wasn't a good idea. If anyone lives in the Twin Falls, ID area and wants an adult ig head to the Exotic Guppy. She is just precious.
I took Sneakers outside yesterday, our second day that we had warm weather. She sat on my hand most of the time. We had a lot of people dropping by and even though she got nervous when they walked by me, she mainly remained calm with me. We have come along way and she showed me how much she has come to trust me. People would come up to look at her and she would posture and get nervous. When they backed away, she would look up at me and then get comfortable in my hand again to bask in the sun. I didn't let anyone pet or hold her. It just reminded me how she use to act with me and how different she is now. We still have a long way to go, but its nice to see that we have made some baby steps. I can't wait till summer and she can do gardening with me. By the way, does anyone know if igs can eat honeysuckle? We have a couple plants and I haven't seen them on the poisonous list. Just curious.
