: I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what grounds all these " bannings " are being based on. I've read about the NY Bill, this one, and a few others...I get really upset at the whole rational really, especially ones concerning " dangerous animals ". Pets of all different kinds need help, wether they be considered exotic or domestic. I can't tell you how many " wild " cats live in my garage and barn...all products of people not spaying or nutering their cats. Puppies are constantly dropped off out here in our rural little town...either to die or hopefully be picked up by some comapassionate person...a few years back, a herd of 20 appalousa horses were rescued not once, but twice ( the first time she got them all back ). They were so malnutritioned some could barely stand up, not to mention hooves had not been trimmed in years, some were lame, others foundered...they gave these animals back to her, then the public started screaming...as for dangerous animals...ALL animals can be dangerous...dogs, cats, birds, horses, sheep, reptiles, etc...some more so than others...a friend of mine was kicked in the head by a horse ( luckly he lived ), I've been bitten by a dog, charged by a horse ( several times ), and witnessed a man in an emergency room ripped to shreds due to a domestic cat...I think laws need to focus on those who neglect animals and endanger others or the animal. Stricter rules on petstores, harsher laws on animal owners ( registration, violations, etc...)...punish those who are not being responisble owners, not those of us who are...sorry, things like this get me so ticked off...I have to vent...
: : Recieved this in my email:
: : --------------------
: : This information came from my Pacific Northwest Exotics newsletter For more information contact pnwe@effectnet.com
: : In the newsletter they informed us that AZA ( American Zoo and Aquarium Association) is planning on announcing an attempt to ban the ownership of all exotics nationwide except to members of AZA and TAOS (The Association of Sanctuaries).
: : They plan on holding a conference in Washington DC on May 21 & 22 to formerly announce their plan to ban private ownership of exotic animals.
: : It is imperative that we contact AZA by mail, email, or phone and register our protests about their plan.
: : There are many thousands of responsible and loving private owners of exotic animals and we should not be forced to give up the animals we love or be blocked when we want to give another exotic animal a loving and permanant home.
: : AZA is a powerful group and we need to have our voices heard in this matter.
: : Please, everyone contact the AZA offices immediately. Time is running out to protect our rights as responsible and caring exotic animal owners!
: : Aza must realize that there are countless intelligent and capable private citizens that are devoted to their exotic pets.
: : It is important that all exotic animal owners contact AZA to record their views on this matter. Every letter counts!
: : We need to secure our rights as private citizens to love and care for our precious animals.

: : This link should be of interest as well :
: : http://aza.org/Communique/01-05/index.htm
: : I implore *everyone* please write. Let us not let the efforts of some be in vain such as that happened in NYC. It mentions *all* exotics,
: : and has something negative to say about all types, mammals, birds,
: : and herps! Please forward this to any and all mailing lists and message boards you belong to that may find this of value.
: : Thank you
