The fiji banded iguana (Brachylophus fasciatus) are listed as CITES (Convention
on International Trade of Endangered Species) Appendix I, just like the also highly
endangered Cyclura iguana genus. Both Brachylophus species are not nearly as endangered as most
cyclura species however.
Brachylophus spp. has enjoyed protection under CITES appendix I since June 6, 1981, and cannot be exported
legally for the pet trade.
The banded iguana is found on the fiji islands from Viti Levu to Tonga, and are much smaller than green iguanas.
They max out at about 8" svl and weigh max about 1/2 lb.
I would stay away from anyone who claims to be legally selling these animals,
violation of the Lacey Act (which allows the US to prosecute people for violating CITES)
can result in a 5 year prison sentence and up to $250,000 in fines.
I say stick with your spiney tail igs, they are also a beautiful species!
