In Reply to: I thought Easter was last Sunday!!! posted by mommafish on April 27, 2003 at 14:48:15:

with my Zok. This was her first breeding season. She had stopped eating and started digging around and wanting out or her cage all the time so we knew it was her breeding time. She laid the first egg 2 weeks before easter and then stopped. She had a nice big nest box full of moistened peat and dug like crazy, but no more eggs. My vet said to watch her and try to let it happen on its own. If not we would do surgery and spay at the same time. As long as she was still active, alert, and had good color not to worry. The Thursday before Easter she laid another egg in the middle of the kitchen floor then Friday she laid one on the window sill. So much for all my work in building her a nice cozy nestbox! We were wondering if we were going to have a real Easter egg hunt. Called the vet back Monday and was discussing the time for doing the surgery and I guess Zok overheard us. when her lights came on (timers) up on her shelf was a pile of 23 more eggs. Boy did she look rough! Every thing I read had led me to believe that egg laying would all be over in 24 hours. All in all her laying lasted over a 2 week period. But she was being monitored by my vet. Try to find agood herp vet even if it means driving a while. Your peice of mind will be worth it.
