You can't think that, and not think past the iguana part of it... I can tell you from working in numerous vet clinics, witnessing all of my grandparents' deaths, and living in hospitals for a third of my life, No species is safe from painful and sad deaths. It is saddening to think about, and we have to wonder if ANYTHING is worth 'It' . . . Kidney and/or liver failure is commonly the 'old age' death that many of us want, for ourselves and our loved ones. Unfortunately, it's not painless, quick, or easy. Our organs just can't keep up with us, and after so many years, they just give out, whether we are ready to or not. It is dependent on the individual, and the health of their lifestyle. Kidney and Liver failure can only be deemed 'un-natural' by direct damage. I can promise you, no animal in the wild dies of 'old age'. Natural causes, yes, all the time. In the wild, if an iguana becomes ill or injured, it will most certainly be the easiest target for a predator.
*sighs*
I am so sorry for my ramblings... It is very late, I have had a terribly long day, and This is a topic that I can respond to personally. You see, I have a fatal genetic 'disorder'. The average lifespan, for those of 'us' who make it past our teen years (most die as children), is only 35. I am 20. I am posed with this said question with every breath I take, every day of my life, every pill I have to swallow.... It nags at me. And I can promise you... It is worth it. Everything is worth something, and the mere effort put forth in trying to make something better, easier, happier, makes it 100% worth it. The pain is very real, the trials are long and hard, but experience is what life is all about. Some are capable of dealing with painful experiences over and over again, while others may not survive the first. That is for the individual to determine. But whether our efforts are worth the end result can only be measured by the success in between.
*smiles* I hope this helps some of you. Please keep it in mind, as I'm sure there will be times when I will need to ask to hear it. 8)
Sorry for the long post...Personal topic
