What you ig is doing is natural. It will take time to tame him. What I did was I just put my hand in to his cage with out trying to touch him and lift him up for bit till he got used having my hand in there and then I started slowly get my hand closer till I was able to pet him. After that he allowed me to pick him up with out much of hassle. Also try to hand feed him. That helped to create a trust. As well here are couple of sites you can use to read up on taming. Hope this helps.

:My iguana is physco. He freaks out everytime i try to take him out of his cage and he tries to jump on to everything. I wish he would just calm down but i do not know how to get him to do this. Please help me.
