I've not run across the tail snapping scenario yet...at least not where it's been obvious. We do get our share of rescues with regrown tails and stunted growth. What we have seen and been told in 3 cases where lizards were surrendered is that the previous owners, not liking to be scratched by their iguanas claws, clipped the whole end of the toes off instead of the tip of the claw. All three of these female iguanas were amazingly sweet and we were fortunate to find wonderful homes for them with adoptive parents willing to make enclosures suitable for a special needs iguana.
