: Could his size (or lack of it) be caused by his diet or the fact that he had been kept in a 55 gallon tank his whole life, which possibly stunted his growth?

I've heard that one before, too, and I used to think it was true. But it's not: keeping an ig in a small enclosure will not stunt its growth. This probably got started because poor husbandry often = bad enclosure + bad diet + bad lighting. It's the second two that really do the damage!

Feeding your ig right and giving it the proper uv and heat will help a lot. It's funny, I don't think my rescue, Bud, is growing very fast, because I see him every day, but whenever my friends visit, they're like, "Whoa. He's a real monster." I get the feeling that one day, I'm gonna go to his enclosure to take him out, and say, "Holy cow. He really IS a big monster!" I feed the MK salad + various greens.

: I want him to get as big as possible!!!

:D That makes me so happy when I hear people say that. I feel the same way, and it's nice to hear that when you consider that their size is a big reason a lot of igs get dumped.

If you're really concerned, take him to the vet- and check out Wong's Green Iguana Heaven. Wong (RIP) had a hormonal problem that prevented him from developing normal, male iguana attributes, including extra large size. But if he's otherwise healthy, I would wait. Actually, that's exactly what I'm doing about my skinny little, girly-lookin' two year old male. (Appx. 12" snout to vent). He eats well, checked out well at the last vet visit, but still looks skinny and little!
