First of all, this lizard was found on the street behind my father's house, The place that I grew up raising lizards (including and ig)until I left over 30 years ago.
Second, realize that the Monterey County SPCA is an extremely political organization. When I was there, people hardly even knew about the cats and dogs they had, much less anything else. The SPCA management has virtually no knowledge of animal husbandry of any kind, but they do know how to survive in a psuedo-governmental agency.
Sorry, but I wasn't impressed with them at all. When I mentioned igs and other reptiles to the management and staff, they all went "ewwwww" vitually in unison. In fact, management said they really didn't like reptiles at all.
So, the fact that they are a vast reservoir of mis-information is not too suprising.
My two cents and relationship to the situation.
