Your absolutely right. I am a counselor and have had a lot of psych training, and what you listed is basic, effective behavioral training. This works with humans, too.

One more note, however, on what you said about not moving too quickly. These poor little (and even big) iggies think that we are going to eat them. They start life as a small herbivore in a very wild place, which translates to "I'm everyone else's food". Now, if you have ever watched the Discovery Chanel, or even seen your cat pounce on a toy mouse, you know that almost all predators strike quickly (think of a snake). Well, this little Iguana sees a six foot predator looming over for it, and if you move quickly, you are 'striking' at it. Just a thought. Have you ever seen a predator move slowly and smoothly toward an animal without striking?

So, the moral of the story is, move slowly.
