Okay...I see your point, but experimentation like what you mentioned is thankfully very illegal now and all experiments are heavily monitored and reviewed and have to do with cancer research, disease and chemical exposure that humans put in the air anyway. Testing cruelly is certainly unnecessesary and I am against foolish testing, too..however I have worked in a biological lab and understand that mice and rats are easily bred, have short lives, and provide comparable data to humans. Animals showing signs of pain are not allowed to live a drawn out life according to IACCUC. They are safely and humanely euthanized.
Hell, I say if humans are up to experimentation I'm all for it! Thin the herd a little, eh? Anyway, I know it sounds cruel, but life and nature are not nearly as compassionate as we are. If PETA and ALF had their way, every living being would be alive to suffer the longest, sickest years of their life just for the sake of the idea of the "right to live". Is life worth living if it is purely pain? I know it's kinda off the subject but life is suffering and humans are now guided by more humane ways to gather important information. Animals that are experimented on are in no danger of extinction, and are cared for while being used to gather useful information for the sake of humanity..and I do agree with that.
: I think they have accomplished a lot. You need some wacky extremists sometimes to get the ball rolling. Most people care about animals but just sit around and do nothing. They educate and try to change things. You just have to filter through some of their meladrama and B.S. sometimes. I wouldn't be above involving them to try to get a petstore to change its ways. I think most of them are vegetarians who do not wear leather (haven't really met any that were not pretty extreme) (I on the otherhand like leather and meat so it is not the group for me).
: I am very much against animal testing-- we were put on the earth to tend to the garden and the animals, not experiment on them for our own selfish and petty reasons (gee does this eyeshadow burn? let's put bunnies in headlocks and cake it in their eyes which have no tear ducts-- gee its been a month and their eyes are full of ulcers...the bunny is sick...let's throw him in the trash.) I am all for animal rights!!!!!!!! At one time women had no rights... blacks had no rights....children had no rights... Did that make it okay? It's time to EVOLVE and show compassion to all creatures! Okay, I'm part of the food chain so I will eat animals, but there is NO NEED FOR CRUELTY! There may be better laws in place now, but there is a lot of harm still being done out there... and I thank God for companies that promote the fact that they DO NOT TEST on animals.
: ...eeeee...went off on a bit of a rant there...my 3cents anyway...

: : Animal rights groups claim to serve for the good of wildlife and pets, but they extremely naive ecologically. They may protest a mink farm for slaughtering them for fur but then release a large number of them, putting them into an environment that causes them to starve to death, become predated upon, etc. So who's really causing the suffering? Although animal experimentation can seem cruel and unusual (and previously had no regulations before IACUC was implemeted), there are teams of professionals now to carefully review and monitor reasons and methods of experimentation that make sure it is fruitful and the knowledge gained is useful. I am very against animal rights groups, but I do believe animals should be used and treated ethically and with compassion. PETA and ALF definitely have ulterior motives, and should probably take ecology and wildlife management courses before joining such extremist groups. That's my two cents. Take care all.

: : : :Please do not give any monies or support the so called animal rights groups. These groups press for laws to restrict or even outlaw the capture & or keeping of not only large or venemous snakes, but all reptiles in general is being pushed by animal rights organizations like PETA. Peta not only is against Hunting & Fishing, but Reptile hunting/collecting as well. They intice so many people to give to them to "save" the wildlife. A big part of their donated monies are fueled to pay salaries, run more anti-animal use ads, & lobby legislators into voting their way. The money really never helps anything except the existance of PETA. I bet alot of the members & staff of PETA still eat fast food burgers & wear leather shoes if the truth was known. Don't give to PETA, its not helping wildlife like it says it does!.....My thoughts........alternator
