I do not know about all rescues, but where I rescued mine from, they are all vet checked pryer to adopting out.

:On the one hand you have buying an iggy,either from a petstore or from someone from a classified or person you know.If from a petstore chances are that it can be full of parasites,stressed,not eating healthy foods,etc,etc. so when you get it then its off to the vet for an appointment to find out if there are any bugs in it.Money spent. If buying from a classified then you have the same basic scenario only you dont get to see the iggy first hand,only a picture,which may or may not be the right one.So when you get your iggy chances are you'll be off to the vet for a checkup.Again money spent. If by chance you buy from a person then you have a better chance of knowing the iggies health and will probably lessen your chance of going to the vet unless you want to do it for precaution.So this is a toss up on money spent.

:With adoption you have all of the basic scenarioes in one because A) unless you see the animal first hand then you dont know its health factors unless the rescue you get it from can validate the vet checkups.So again probably money spent on vet.B)You still have to supply the nominal fee for the animal being fed,housed,adoption,paperwork,etc. which can wind up being more than buying from a petstore (if its a baby).C) You have to start fresh with more than likely an adult iggy or juvenile at the least.So that means getting them used to you.Getting,bit,scratched,lashed,lacerated,etc. So theres money spent for stitches(if needed),medical supplies(alcohol,peroxide,antibiotic cream.)

:So on either count buying or adopting you more than likely will be spending the same amount of money so really technically speaking theres no difference.And this whole cliche thing about helping the neverending battle of importing iggys is a load a malarchy.Buying iggys from either a petstore or adopting them isnt going to help either way because if you get one iggy adopted there are 3 others waiting in the wing.Same goes for buying if you buy one then you have 5 more waiting to be bought.Its a neverending rotating story of life and death and the sad thing is that the iggys are paying for it.Theres no way around that unless the thought of importing was just put out of its misery.Then and only then would the circle of life and death possibly begin to circumvent itself.
