Update on Lumpy...

Lumpy had a thorough ophthalmic exam on Saturday which included ultrasound. The results were interesting altho inconclusive. The actual orb of the bad eye is slightly enlarged but the inner structures are all normal. The Doc did see some strange tissue mass behind the eye but cannot tell what it is without more invasive procedures. Possibilities include tumor, old abscess, or scar tissue. There is no infection present. I did learn from the previous owners that the bulging of the eye occured well after treatment for MBD when Lumpy was going thru an aggressive period and smashing himself into the glass of his tank. I'm trying to get his xrays from 2000 to see what they show. His deformities just don't jive with normal MBD and I'm wondering now if he didn't severely injure himself at some point. We're giving him some time to settle in more and to get the old health records before we make a decision about more invasive studies. He was a wonderful patient Saturday and needed no restraint during the ultrasound. Such a sweet boy. :)
