Iguanas are not designed to digest animal proteins at ALL. What will happen is the animal protein (yes, from crickets, mealworms, bugs, etc) will increase his protein levels. This will put way too much stress on his kidneys which are being pressured to do something they are not designed to do. It WILL lead to kidney failure and death for your iguana. Maybe not for a few years, but it will happen.
You might ask Harry's mom and dad a question or two.. we recently rescued an iguana who's former owners fed it cheese. His blood work shows elevated protein levels. Is it too late to reverse that? Only time will tell.. that and an incredibly healthy diet for him from now on.
It's just not worth it.
: i have my young iguana in with some harmless cricket eating specimens, and i noticed the last time i threw crickets in, he went after them with a passion. is it ok for him to be eating them?
: thank you
