In Reply to: Repti-Glo 8.0 too much for an ig? or should I get... posted by shortydsm on March 10, 2003 at 20:37:26:
As long as you are feeding an appropriate diet and NOT supplimenting with D3 at all then, in my opinion, there's no such thing as "too much" UVB for an ig using anything that is currently on the market for artificial UV production. Having said that, I can't attest to the UV output of a Repti-Glo but it's a fluo tube if I'm not mistaken which means that UV output is only going to be so much. I HAVE tested brand new Vita-Lites and as far as UVB is concerned , again in my opinion, they are carp. But if you look at the packaging on Vita-Lites I have yet to find one that claims to produce UVB. They are a "full spectrum" bulb which we all know is completely and totally different than UVB producing. "Fortunately" we're down to 16 igs here but each one has it's own mercury vapor bulb as a UV source. MV's are all that I'll personally use. Just my .02
