The best food for an iguana of any age is a mixture of fresh calcium-rich greens and vegetables. Collards, mustard greens, dandelion greens & flowers, turnip greens, escarole and endive are good greens for an ig. Add a little of some other veggies like snow peas, green beans, bell peppers, and squash (butternut or acorn, e.g.). Lots of igs really love the squash. You can add a little fruit for variety and for a treat, such as blueberries, strawberries, apple, raspberries, etc. Stay away from citrus, as it is too acidic for iguanas. Brocolli should not be fed in large amounts, nor should spinach, kale, bok choy, or other cabbages. Pre-packaged iguana foods are generally almost worthless. Fortunately, most of the foods I mentioned can be found at a supermarket. You don't need all of the foods I mentioned at one time, but try for a at least two of the greens at a time. Switch them around for variation, so your ig doesn't get bored of the food.
Iguanas also need to get UVA and UVB light every day. UVB is what allows them to absorb the calcium from the food. Without it, iguanas get Metabolic Bone Disease sooner or later. A ReptiSun 5.0 or IguanaLight 5.0 fluorescent light bulb is a good way to get UV for your ig.
