:Chances are, some organism(s) may hybernate/survive the coldest winter. To be on the safe side, as Jake mentioned, disinfect the log, and boil it afterwards somehow.
:As for the new iguana, he looks good, but do u really want another one? Do u have the financial resources, and especially, the SPACE for a new one? At 3 feet long, he's a young adult, and therefore needs A VERY LARGE adult-sized enclosure to grow properly.
:It is a very noble thing to do, and if you can give him a good home, go ahead. But, two males will show dislike and territoriality, so always keep them apart or monitored when free-roaming.

I now have an empty enclosure since Goliath passed away last week, and Rex, i'm almost positive is a female, has showed no signs of being a male, and no characteristics of being a male, an she's 2 yrs old, and 33 in. stl, and 11 in svl.
And i'm not positive yet if i do want another iguana.
But thanks for all the info.
