It got really crazy. The whole issue of domestication, evolution, genetic pass-on of learned behavior.
I agree with XTA. They will eventually regulate us. Because face it, we are the unorthodox pet owners, the freaks, and a minority in the pet market.
The best scenario would be to eliminate iguana farming completely for the pet-industry, and use it only for conservation. The U.S. should have its own handful iguana farms, with monitored breeding. Like alligator farms.
Though some may find it gruesome, excess animals can be used for food consumption like the alligators. After all, they say it taste just like chicken.
I'm just shooting ideas here. Sometimes we do find ourselves to be walking contradictions.
We comment on how child-like they can be, but yet we tell folks to keep away due to possibilities of salmonella and injury from an attack. We support adoption, but the truth is, very few people are capable and fit to keep such demanding creatures. So that leaves us getting more iguanas than we can afford, and a few worthy mortals.
It's a crazy situation. We should have more professional breeders like Bert of Agama, David Blair, Python Pete, etc, instead of yahoos who breed reptiles in their garage to make a few extra bucks.
We'll see...
