Interesting theory but in the long run...captive raised or not, I don't think iguanas make that great of a pet for the average person. I think some points you made about breeding certain better behaviors would be good, but in the end everyone always buys for color and look (not what's on the inside)...just look at the other reptiles like bearded dragons. It's only the special souls like rescuers that see more in an animal...and they'll take on disfigured and deformed animals without a second thought. The point is, this pressure for looks will lead breeders in that direction instead of the better temperament breeding program! And, they still will be very large animals that can be unpredictable during breeding season, take special lighting and care, etc. Maybe your idea would improve things after many many years, but I believe it would take a long time to see any positive effects...and in the meantime a lot of rescues would slip through the cracks since the focus would be on the "new captive bred..better iguanas". This is just my opinion though.
