We are pretty active in the public and private schools in our city. What we do each fall is send a flyer to each school building, telling them who we are and what we offer as a program. Once you've been in the schools a couple of times the word gets around. We have been doing presentations for some of the same teachers each year for about 5 years now. We also do an all day Science Fair each spring at one of the elementary schools where we are among chemists from Dow, Leader Dogs for the Blind, computer tech people and some other interesting groups.
I think the outreach program that we do that is the most fun is the Reptile Weekend at Binder Park Zoo. The Michigan Society of Herpetologists usually fills 2 large rooms at the zoo with all kinds of critters. We get to spend Saturday night in the zoo, wandering around, interacting with some of the animals. About 8-9000 people come thru the zoo on this weekend. This photo is of me, 2 friends from the Cylura and Chuckwalla forums, and Bubbles, who is one of my best herp ambassadors. This was taken last month at the herp show that we attend each month with an education and adoption table.
