After reading everything that has already been said I'll throw my .02 in just for giggles. Mating in and of itself is one thing. Other than the potential injuries that can occur during mating there isn't necessarily anything wrong with it I guess. The problem comes when the eggs do. The only thing that I've seen said that I am concerned with is that Joe mentioned 10,15 or 20 eggs/hatchlings. What if that number is more like 50,75, or 100 ? Those numbers are definitely realistic. We're all assuming, correctly I believe, that you are somewhere in the US. If you already know that there is a problem with iguanas being abandoned/neglected/abused then why potentially make the problem worse? If you've got a couple of friends lined up that want a hatchling ig then go ahead and try to hatch a couple if you really feel that you need to. But why exacerbate a known problem?

Personally, I wonder if it's not too late for fertile eggs to be possible this season. Regardless, I would feed any resulting eggs to either snakes or monitors as was previously suggested. I do know that Niles enjoy a good iguana egg when they can get them. And this forum still is an excellent source for information. There is just a heightened sense of responsibility regarding proper husbandry and other issues - such as over population. Just because opinions here differ from yours doesn't necessarily mean that they or you are wrong. Which brings up another concern. If up until now you've been keeping the igs on pine shavings and in Rubbermaid containers then are you really up for attempting this in the first place? It initially appears to me as if your husbandry needs a little brushing up - feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
