Lettuce has no nutritional value...by all means introduce him to better foods ASAP!
Most of his diet should be calcium rich greens like: Collards, mustards, turnip greens, escarole, endive, watercress, dandelion.
Add: various veggies like snow peas, green beans, various squash and zuchinni. A little fruit like mango, melon, berries, papaya.
Do you have UV light and a heat lamp? These are essential for proper body temperatures and utilizing the calcium.
