Lizard went temporarily insane...

Very strange. Lizard was acting perfectly normal this morning. I turned on his lights, fed him, pet him a bit, misted him... all normal. Then I left for work. I came back at 5:30 and went in to say hi to him. He jumped back off his pillows like he was startled. I came closer, still talking to him, saying, "Did I scare you, Lizard?" He jumped right off of his table, in the gap between the table and the wall, onto the floor. I came closer, squatting down to see him, and he took off. He ran out of the room. The whole time he was acting like he'd never seen a human before. I followed him and found him in the corner of the kitchen, breathing heavily. His head, arms and shoulders were normal colored, but everything in back of that line had turned quite dark and he looked stressed.

I sat down on the floor nearby (but not too close) and let him calm down for a few minutes. Then I approached slowly, and he let me pet him and after that take him to his bath. By the end of the bath his coloring was getting back to normal. I gave him his dinner after his bath, as usual, but I don't think he's eaten more than a couple bites. It's also crossed my mind that right now he won't eat when he thinks I'm watching. He generally won't let strangers watch him eat. I can't remember when the last time he acted like that with me, but then he's never acted this way at all before. He's normally really calm, and will let total strangers pet him. He doesn't seem to be in breeding season any more. He is shedding, although I doubt that has much to do with his strange behavior.

Well, sorry this is such a long post, but he's got me a bit worried. Thoughts, anyone??

Kate
