In Reply to: Why do Iguanas vibrate their heads sometimes??not bob, shake posted by mousegirl on February 12, 2003 at 10:14:16:
:Mine does this everyday for some reason. I don't mean head bobbing, I mean head shaking/vibrating. What's up with that?
My male ig, Bud, doesn't headbob to me or anyone. Not "hello," not "look at what a studmuffin I am," nothing. The only time he really headbobs, I mean like the slow, up and down headbobbing, is when he looks in the mirror. Then he headbobs like three times, and afterwards is satisfied with staring menacingly at the "other" iguana, or licking the mirror. I wonder if that means that sometimes Bud wins, and sometimes the mirror iguana wins! :)
But that jerky, shuddery head bob is what I see when he's extremely agitated. He did it one time right before he bit me. It was when he was still calming down and adjusting to his new environment. Back then, he would hiss at me, and open his mouth, and I would hiss back, which would certainly give him something to think about. But he would always warn that he was going to bite me by opening his mouth. One day, I don't really know what set him off (maybe the beginning of breeding season?) he did that shuddery, "strobe light" bob, and just BIT me! I was shocked.
So just a word of caution.
