Mine is the same way. I purchased him about 3 weeks ago and he was completely dark and muddy on the top and bright green in the bottom. Maybe we purchased them in the same place.hehe. Youre not in Florida, are you? Well anyway, he just went through his first shedding and I noticed that there is less brown and black on him and more green now- a dark green. Almost looks like camouflage. I have read that iguanas from central america tend to not be as green and tend to have more of a muddy color..except for blue diamonds..so they say. My Iguana is from El salvador.
Also farm raised iguanas get something called Black Fungus Disease from the dirty moist conditions in these farms. This could possibly be another culprit. This is not necessarily serious if you give your iguana the proper lighting plus direct sunlight as well.They say direct sunlight on a daily basis will usually cure this problem.Though it will take anywhere from 2-3 sheddings to return to a green color. Guess we'll have to wait and see. Good luck!
