The bit aout snakes and milk is a part of the massive amount of erronious folklore concerning serpents. This came from finding snakes in the barn with the cows when in reality the snakes were looking for the rodents that fed on the animals food. Some people even used to think that snakes could suck on the udders of cows (hence the term Milksnakes).
