Well, for one thing, unlike mammals and amphibians, reptiles' skin does not 'absorb' or transpire. So using Vitmain E rich creams or lotions or anything like that won't necessarily help.
The only sure way that your iguana will be that beautiful all its life is if the captive keeping is 100% accurate and perfect.
Since that is impossible, here are some quick pointers.
Color is mostly affected by stress, health, temperature, mood, mating season, and age.
Higher temps with proper lighting yield bright lighter colors.
Cooler temps yield darker coloration to absorb as much heat as possible.
Stress yields to dark coloration as well. Mating season can bring awsome colorations. Health is obviously a factor.
And finally, mood, which is related to stress, is another factor.
If you cover all these with a LARGE enclosure, proper food, proper heat and lighting, and socialization, you will have a long-lived, beautiful pet. However, with age color will gradually worsen.
However, there are some igs in need of a good home who may not be cat-walk material, but are still wonderful animals.
Regards,
-IJ
