:Usually that sort of thing is in response to a ring of old skin that didn't shed. All you have to do is remove the constricting band of skin, not amputate the tail, unless its been on there so long that the tissue has already died.

We went to another vet, and he was of the opinion that at one time Ocho had lost the end of her tail, and that this "stricture" was actually the junction between where the old tail end had broken off and about 5 inches of new growth tail. I didn't know that iguanas could regrow their tails; I've seen so many stubby tails and very few long, whippy ones that are thin at the tip. BTW, Ocho's SVL is about 17 inches.
