I've used both techniques...kind of depends on the iguana. With Sleestack, I did grab him and restrain him until he calmed down. Yes he was afraid, but he eventually would cave in and realize he needed to give up. Then I would talk to him softly and pet him and release him shortly after so he realized I was not going to kill him or eat him. I handfed him as often as possible. It took a long time to tame him, but he has a more nuerotic personality than many iguanas. Now he is pretty good around most people, but there are a few people he becomes nervous around and one person he HATES that took care of him once. He is so tame now, allowing me to help him with shed, wash him in the tub limb by limb, etc. It takes a lot of time and patience...don't give up.
