The biggest difference between in the wild and in captivity is space. They can display and walk away more than say 10 feet. They can walk away til they pass out, so that is probably why there are more breeding season aggression in captives. Basically the same reason it is better to feed prekilled rodents to reptiles. If they are not hungry in the wild they can walk away but in captivity they can not.

:does the loser go home, form a new plan, come back the next day terminator style, kill the bad guy, and get the girl(s)?
