Gee...There's a kid on another iguana board who's trying to incubate 40 or 50 eggs... Maybe he'd be willing to share a few... I should start a long-distance "dope-slap" service. I'm envisioning something similiar to a singing telegram.... "Knock-knock... Mr. Smith ? Special delivery for you... THWACK... Have a nice day."

Sorry, Nick... Mini-rant there. Melissa Kaplan's site is good. Jen Swofford's is excellent also. Heck, a bunch of us here have our own sites as well that you can check out. I'm sure people would be more than happy to have you take a look. Bottom line is that, with all there is to know about iguana husbandry, you really should do as much research as you can and look at many different sites and sources of info. You'll quickly find that there is MUCH information out there that will be contradictive from site to site.
Sexing an iguana usually can't take place much before a year and a half to two years so you're just going to have to take a guess if the ig you get is a youngster.
As far as "buying" an iguana - I, and many others here, will advise against this whether it be from a shop or an on-line supplier, both of which are mediocre choices at best.
With the sheer numbers of iguanas up for adoption around the US, as well as Canada and the UK, you really should be able to find one, whether you're looking for a juvenile or older, up for adoption. In many cases, you will be able to acquire not only the ig but also it's enclosure and equipment for little or no cost. With the amount of time and money that iguanas require, many people are literally "suckered" into getting an ig by the shop that they purchase it from knowing little or nothing about them.
As far as male vs. female, you've heard some stories about males... How much do you know about females ? Are you ready to deal with one laying upwards of 40 eggs EVERY year ? Can you handle the vet bills if she becomes "egg bound" or has trouble actually laying the eggs ? There are a whole bunch of things that you have to look into before making your final decision.
Start looking around for your info. James Hatfield has an excellent book out and there are the websites I mentioned earlier. If you come up with any specific questions please feel free to come back and bounce them off of us here or even e-mail one of us directly. We'll do what we can to help....
Good Luck !
