You need to think of your igs enclosure as a little bit of South American rain forest in your house. Unless you live in South America, Florida or some other place that has the same temps and humidity year around that their native habitat has, then I would recommend a fully enclosed cage.
I have five lizards, 3 igs, 1 tegu, and 1 monitor, all of which have to have the correct environment for them to feel comfortable and live as much as if they were in their native surroundings.
Keeping that in mind, all of my enclosures are fully enclosed. The ig and tegu cages all all double walled and have insulation to keep the heat in, cus it gets really cold here in the winter.
I would recommend going down to a large hardware store like Home Depot or similiar and look for framed and ready to install double pane windows that you can incorporate into your cage design. Glass does not scratch as bad as plexiglass or clear acrylic. I do have one cage, the monitor's, that does have clear acrylic and it is really scratched up, but I live with it because he was constantly cracking glass with his tail.
There is a very hard and durable clear acrylic which goes by the brand Lucite. However, it is so expensive that you would save money by buying the ready made windows.
Hope this steers you in the right direction.
