The cost of living here seems cheap to me... The last place I lived in the US is New York., so this is not bad. I don't drink the tap water here though... My biggest complaints here are terrible drivers (unbelieveable) and poorly synchronized traffic lights... Most surface streets are 45 MPH, but people will drive 60 so you don't get caught at all the lights...
I'm currently working at the Rat Pack show at the Greek Isles (used to be the Debbie Reynolds theatre). Between that, freelance gigs and some freelance photography work, I'm happy... There aren't too many shows now using musicians (so I'm considering myself lucky). Its mosty lounge work and convention work. I'm living on the West side of town. Its only 15 minutes to Red Rock, which is nice when I need to get out for a bit...
:Hmm...I know a guy from Boston that did the same thing. Funny, I never found the "live music" end of things out there. What are you doing for work? I was out there for the install of "O" at the Bellagio for a bit. There's just something about a place that charges $3.50 for a gallon of milk, puts traffic lights on roads with 50 m.p.h. speed limits, and allows anybody and everybody to fish, swim, and boat in it's only source of drinking water....;) What part of town are you in?
